The New Forest National Park AuthorityThe New Forest National Park was created in March 2005 and the New Forest National Park Authority took up its full powers in April 2006. Whilst the New Forest NPA has no direct remit to develop tourism, the NPA is a committed partner to the Green Leaf Tourism Scheme and sustainable tourism initiatives. The NPA have also helped to fund tourism related projects, for example: New Forest horse-drawn omnibus
This project will establish a horse-drawn omnibus service using an old open-top omnibus and a team of heavy horses. Based in Ringwood, the service will operate different routes four days a week serving a range of visitor attractions, pubs and hotels providing opportunities for car-free tourism - Visit the site
New Forest electric vehicle hire:
Fund grant £20,000 total project cost £181,402 (11% of total): The project is to establish an electric car-hire scheme in the New Forest based in Burley with additional hire centres in Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst. The scheme will initially use ten cars which are pollution-free and have a top speed of 45mph - Visit the site
The Mill at Gordleton waterwheel renewal
Fund grant £22,374: total project costs £74,578 (30% of total): In partnership with Southampton University this project will re-instate a waterwheel in an old flour mill that has been converted into a small hotel and restaurant, to generate electricity for the hotel.
